Euthanasia as a theme for bioethical discourse

Vol. 23 Iss. 1 pp. 125133 | St. Petersburg State Institute of Psychology and Social Work | ISSN: 1993-8101

Abstract

The theme of euthanasia can be discussed from the viewpoint of different scientific disciplines. This article considers the perspective of bioethical discourse. The author compares two philosophical approaches: scientistic and existential. While supporters of scientism consider the boarder situation of transition from existence to Nothing as a subject not worthy of research, the supporters of existentialism consider Nothing as an active principle and attach great importance to it.

Keywords

euthanasia, eutélia, scientism, existentialism, utilitarianism, Nothing.
