Personality values and role preferences in teamwork: an experience of empirical research

Vol. 31 Iss. 1 pp. 4958 | St. Petersburg State Institute of Psychology and Social Work | ISSN: 1993-8101

Abstract

The results of an empirical study of value-normative conditionality of role preferences in teamwork-type joint labour activity are presented. The Belbin Team Roles model was used. The stable interrelations of attractiveness-rejection of roles in teamwork with values functioning at the level of normative ideals of the personality (according to S.H. Schwartz) are revealed. The psychological value portraits of persons focused on the occupation of certain team-role positions are specified. The nature of the mediating influence of value normative ideals of a person on role self-determination in teamwork is revealed. The results can be used in the practice of organizational team building, development of team competencies of managers and employees.
