Stereotypes and stereotyping as a problem of ethnocultural research

Abstract

As a result of intercultural or inter-ethnic contacts, the most typical features of the people and culture are found. Depending on these characteristic features and qualities, the representatives of these cultures are divided into various groups (categories). Thus, ethnocultural stereotypes are gradually formed, representing generalized ideas about typical features inherent in any of the peoples or its culture. Effective stereotyping helps people understand the situation and act in accordance with new circumstances. Therefore, a stereotype can not only be an obstacle in communication but also bring some benefits.
